Uniper: Germany may resort to rationing gas consumption

Germany may consider rationing gas consumption after the shutdown of supplies via Nord Stream, transmits Reuters, citing Klaus-Dieter Maubach, Chief Executive Officer of Uniper.

“We do not rule out that Germany may consider gas rationing as something that may have to be taken into account. We know the government wants to avoid this as much as possible because it would be a disaster for many reasons,” Mobach explained on the sidelines of an international gas conference in Milan.

Last week “Gazprom” reported that the last gas compressor turbine, which was shut down for preventive maintenance on August 31, will not resume operation on September 2 due to malfunctions. After that, gas pumping through the Nord Stream was completely stopped.

Against the backdrop of this news, gas prices began to rise after slowing down on the news about the early filling of underground gas storage facilities (UGS) in Europe. In particular, Germany reached the occupancy rate of 85% 2 months ahead of schedule.
