UN awards Russian peacekeeper posthumously



NATO Secretary General Guterres posthumously awards Russian peacekeeper in the DRC Alexei Mizyura

UN Secretary-General António Guterres posthumously awarded the senior group of Russian military observers to the UN mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Mizyura. This was announced by the press secretary of the permanent mission of Russia to the organization Fyodor Strzhizhovsky.

On the eve of the International Day of Peacekeepers, which is celebrated on May 29, a ceremony was held in the organization's General Assembly Hall in memory of those who died in the line of duty as part of the UN peacekeeping contingents.

Mizyura was awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld medal.

“The place in this tragic list was taken by the senior group of Russian military observers at the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lieutenant Colonel Alexei Mizyura,” Strzhizhovsky said.

He noted that the Russian officer continued to "remain true to his duty" and also "sought to bring peace and stability to the Congolese land."

Strzhizhovsky also noted the high professionalism, courage and courage of Mizura.
