The delivery of eight Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine from the military stocks of Norway has been completed, informed press service of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.

“Norway has prepared and shipped tanks to the Ukrainians. Eight Norwegian tanks have reached their destination.

Together with the tanks, several support vehicles arrived in Ukraine, and tank crews are being trained in Poland.

The fact that Norway will transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv became known in February. At the end of January, Germany and the United States announced the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 tanks and 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv, respectively. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius specified that the first German military equipment would arrive in Ukraine in late March or early April. Poland, Finland, Norway and others also announced plans to transfer tanks to Kyiv.

After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the EU countries, the USA, Great Britain and others imposed new sanctions on the industry and economy of Russia. In particular, they began to provide military assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine. The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of weapons to Kyiv. They also noted that Western countries thus become a party to the conflict.

On February 18, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that a Russian victory in the Ukrainian conflict would be “extremely dangerous” for NATO, so it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine. The secretary general also believes that the countries of the alliance should prepare for confrontation with Russia: modernize their own armies, strengthen relations between European countries and the United States, and generally strengthen the “resilience” of Western society.
