An American military court ruled in acquittal in the case of sailor Ryan Mays, who was accused of setting fire to a US Navy ship with $1.2 billion in damage, CBS reported.

The fire on the amphibious assault ship Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) of the US Navy broke out on July 12, 2020. The ship burned for 4 days.

The report said that no evidence was presented in court that testified to the targeted actions of Mays to organize the arson. At the same time, the internal investigation revealed a number of shortcomings in maintaining fire safety on the ship.

In late 2020, the US Navy announced that the ship would be decommissioned due to critical fire damage.
