Tyson Fury will not fight for Britain

A strange project for a fight between two famous British heavyweights – World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, who parted ways with the other three belts – the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) – after two consecutive defeats from the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, it seems to have collapsed. Fury announced that he would not meet Joshua, and even named the name of his next opponent in the December fight: this is the German Manuel Charr. This option looks much more logical, given that the ideal scenario for the development of the situation in the category involves an early meeting between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, and the match against Charr will serve as a good “warm-up” before him.

The most discussed among the latest news in professional boxing was the record left by the world heavyweight champion according to the World Boxing Council Tyson Fury in his Instagram account (the activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia as extremist).

Fury “officially”, as he put it, announced that the deadline set by himself for Monday evening with compatriot Anthony Joshua regarding their fight has expired, and since the contract has not been signed, the fight will not take place.

This is another twist in a very confusing and complex story. It began after Anthony Joshua, who until recently was considered the king of the category and owned three championship belts in it – the International Boxing Federation, the World Boxing Association and the World Boxing Organization – was defeated for the second time in a row by a heavyweight jumper from the first heavy (up to 90.7 kg) Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. Few experts doubted that immediately after it, the fight for the status of the absolute world champion between Fury and Usyk would become the main item on the agenda, guaranteeing huge public interest and corresponding income and prize money. There hasn’t been a heavyweight fight like this for two decades.

However, contrary to the assumptions of Tyson Fury, having learned that Oleksandr Usyk is not going to return to the ring until next year, initiated negotiations with a defeated opponent. At the same time, it seemed that they were going to a successful conclusion. Anthony Joshua’s team has already agreed with the date of the fight, which was called the “Battle of Britain”, and with the distribution of the prize fund, which is not too flattering for the ex-champion: 60 to 40 percent in favor of Fury. However, ESPN, describing the situation that had arisen after his statement, stressed that there were always doubts about the “seriousness” of the boxer’s intentions. What is meant by this is clear.

By creating intrigue related to his career plans, Tyson Fury could be trying to spur Usyk’s representatives to a more active discussion on the duel for the title of absolute champion and even increase its value.

Anthony Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn has already said he still hopes Tyson Fury can be dealt with. But it looks like he’s wishful thinking. The fact is that Fury said that he had already chosen his partner for the December performance. This is the 37-year-old German Manuel Charr, who at one time fought, even if he did not gain any glory in clashes with them, with heavyweight superstars such as Vitali Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin, but recently he has been performing in veteran mode: for five past For years, he only entered the ring three times. Charr looks like the perfect matchup for Fury in the interim fight before the fight of life. A victory over him is virtually guaranteed, but in terms of maintaining tone in anticipation of the return of Oleksandr Usyk, he can be extremely useful.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua will definitely not have problems with the next fight. A strong opponent managed to throw a challenge to him. This is another Briton Dillian Whyte, whom Tyson Fury knocked out in April while defending the WBC belt, but who, of course, is much more dangerous than the same Charr.
