Tractors are looking for spare parts online

In 2022, the demand for spare parts for agricultural machinery grew in the Russian Federation - small and medium-sized farms actively purchased them, including on marketplaces. Analysts note that in Russia there was already a rather old fleet, and the increase in interest is due to the departure of large foreign suppliers of equipment and spare parts last year.

In 2022, the demand for components for agricultural machinery increased by 6.3 times, follows from a study of the agricultural marketplace pole.rf and Avito. At the same time, the supply increased immediately by 12 times. In total, during the analysis, more than 100 thousand ads in the "Spare parts for agricultural machinery" section for 2022 were analyzed.

The most popular brand of spare parts on both platforms was the Belarusian MTZ (Belarus tractors), and among its spare parts are front axles and spare parts for them. Also among the leaders at Avito are the products of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant - mainly propulsion systems. But the top includes not only brands from the CIS, JCB, Case and John Deere are also popular. Demand and supply grew most actively for attachments (by 15.8 and 23 times respectively), hydraulic and pneumatic systems (8.9 and 13 times), as well as transmissions, engines, their components and suspensions.

According to Alexander Kuroptev, the head of Avito's profile direction, the high season begins on the market for parts for agricultural machinery, which will last until the end of June: farmers begin to prepare for the sowing season and purchase the necessary spare parts. Now Avito has more than 130 thousand offers for the sale of spare parts for agricultural machinery throughout the Russian Federation, of which over 115 thousand are for the sale of new spare parts. Pole.rf CEO Evgeny Belov notes that farmers (small and medium-sized farms) prefer buying on electronic platforms. Companies also note a trend towards extending the life of equipment: “Owners treat it more carefully, so the demand for spare parts and service is growing.”

Dmitry Babansky from SBS Consulting notes that it is correct to speak not so much about the trend as about the fact that the service life of equipment has increased in Russia. “Such dynamics of announcements is more likely connected with the stoppage of the work of large foreign suppliers of equipment, as well as with the active growth of parallel imports,” he continues.

In 2022, foreign players suspended the supply of agricultural machinery to Russia, but during the first half of the year, warehouse stocks were still being sold. By the end of the year, deliveries began through the so-called parallel imports, but their weight was insignificant. Domestic manufacturers of agricultural machinery, which in 2022 faced the need to replace foreign components, nevertheless increased sales in money terms by 17% in a stagnating market (see Kommersant on February 1).

Alexander Altynov, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Dealers of Agricultural Machinery ASHOD, notes that today there is already an understanding of what spare parts can be supplied to the Russian Federation, supply channels are being established. There were also many offers not from dealers, but from new companies - with all the risks of working with new players, this allows you to find almost any spare parts if you wish, he says. Farmers have begun to treat machinery more carefully, Mr. Altynov continues: “Some farmers carry out the most difficult operations with the land on other equipment, leaving the fleet of imported machines for specific tasks. A very old import fleet has become too expensive to maintain and maintain, so they can be sold or disassembled.
