Toyota has officially announced the cessation of car production in Russia. Message about it appeared on the company’s website.

Toyota” decided to stop production at the Toyota Motor LLC plant in St. Petersburg, ”the statement says.

The company noted that after six months of downtime, they see no prospects for resuming the work of the plant in the future. The company’s Russian business will focus on supporting the dealer network, which will continue to serve Russian customers of Toyota and Lexus.

The reduced employees in the company were promised increased payments and support in further employment.

Toyota suspended the activities of the plant in St. Petersburg on March 4, 2022. The decision was made due to violations in the logistics supply chains of parts.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade informedthat the company decided to close its plant in St. Petersburg. The department noted that they began to study the issue of further use of the site. At the same time, Kommersant specified that even after the sale of the enterprise, Toyota production would not be resumed there.

Difficulties with the assembly of foreign cars in Russia began against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions by Western countries against the Russian Federation. In this regard, foreign automakers announced the suspension of car deliveries and production at factories in the country. This decision was made by Renault, Toyota, BMW, Nissan, VAG (Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Skoda) and others.
