The strongest magnetic storm in several years lasted 21 hours

According to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy and Heliophysical Instrumentation of IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS, the magnetic storm that began on March 23 lasted 21 hours. In terms of power, it fluctuated between levels G1 (a weak magnetic storm) and G3 (a strong geomagnetic storm).

The magnetic storm turned out to be powerful for the one caused by the solar wind. It could cause interruptions in satellite navigation and HF radio communications, false alarms of protection systems in power supply networks and an increase in the drift of spacecraft from orbit.

At latitudes of 65 degrees and above, auroras were visible.
