The State Duma Committee supported the initiative to introduce liability for desecration of the St. George ribbon

The St. George Ribbon, which in modern Russia has become a symbol of the Great Patriotic War and support for the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine, can receive the status of a symbol of military glory. A similar initiative of the United Russia party was supported by the State Duma Defense Committee. For the desecration of symbols of military glory in Russia there is a criminal liability.
“The bill will make it possible to bring to justice the scoundrels who mock our citizens and our symbols. The document is aimed at protecting our identity, our history and every citizen of the Russian Federation, ”commented the head of the parliamentary committee Andrei Kartapolov (quote from site “ER”). In his opinion, in the territories of Ukraine that are not controlled by the Russian military, Russian citizens are tortured and killed for wearing a ribbon.
The bill on equating the St. George ribbon to the symbols of military glory was introduced to the State Duma in April. Punishment for public desecration of symbols of military glory is provided for in Art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rehabilitation of Nazism) (up to three years in prison).
