The State Duma adopted in the second reading a draft on combating fictitious marriages of foreigners
State Duma accepted in the second reading of amendments to migration legislation and determined the period of marriage to be three years for obtaining a temporary residence permit (TRP) in a simplified manner.
The authors of this amendment were State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin and Head of the Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov. In the original version of the bill, the minimum term was two years. The initiative is designed to exclude from migration legislation the possibility of foreigners using fictitious marriages and the practice of fictitious paternity to illegally obtain migration status in Russia.
If the document is accepted, the temporary residence permit or residence permit received by the foreigner will be canceled after the court cancels the adoption, as well as if the marriage with a citizen of the Russian Federation, which became the basis for obtaining a permit, is declared invalid.
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin previously noted that after the rules for obtaining a temporary residence permit have been tightened, it will be pointless for foreigners who want to quickly receive a document to enter into a fictitious marriage.
According to data The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, since the beginning of this year, has made 75 decisions on the cancellation of residence permits (RP) and 107 similar decisions on temporary residence permits (TRP) due to fictitious marriages.
