“The Secret of the Lost Piggy Bank” or “Three Whales: Finance for Children”

The Bank of Russia has developed three computer games to improve financial literacy for Moscow schoolchildren. They are called: “The Mystery of the Lost Piggy Bank”, “Space Detective: The Secret of the Seven Banknotes” and “Three Cats: Finance for Children”.

The first game – “The Secret of the Lost Piggy Bank” consists of three levels, each of which is accompanied by a cartoon about the adventures of the characters. It is designed for children six years of age and older. During the game, the guys, together with the cartoon characters, must collect coins, learn how to plan a budget in order to save more money, and recognize financial scammers. To do this, it has tooltips that help you understand the game. According to Olga Milova, head of the financial literacy department of the Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia for the Central Federal District, you can solve the mystery on a computer, phone or tablet.

“Those who successfully cope with all levels will understand the basic financial terms and acquire the skills of competent behavior in the financial market,” Olga Milova specified.

The second game is called “Space Detective: The Mystery of the Seven Banknotes” and is designed for players aged seven and over. During the game, children and teenagers will be able to recognize fakes, learn the technology of banknote security features. Olga Milova believes that the game can be useful for parents who pay attention to financial education. It can also be used as additional material in financial literacy lessons in elementary grades.

The third game was created based on the children’s favorite series “Three Whales” and is designed for children from the age of four. It’s called Three Cats: Finance for Children. Children will learn how to properly manage finances along with funny kittens – Korzhik, Caramel and Compote. According to the concept of the game, a family of three cats dreams of starting a family business. To do this, they need to draw up a budget, understand how to protect themselves from scammers, and learn how to manage their personal finances rationally. By the way, this game can be installed as a mobile application for free.
