The Russian ambassador announced pressure on India for its position on Ukraine

The West is putting pressure on India to the point of blackmail because of its balanced position on the Ukrainian crisis, declared Russian Ambassador to New Delhi Denis Alipov in an interview for TASS.

The diplomat recalled that since 2014, India has been adhering to “balanced positions” on the Ukrainian crisis and is in favor of resolving the conflict on the basis of dialogue, diplomacy, international law and taking into account the interests of the parties.

At the same time, Alipov noted that “India’s position cannot be called pro-Russian,” since it takes into account its own scale of security challenges and ties with other states, including Western ones. It is rather “pro-Indian”.

“Another thing is that the basic principles on which our countries build international relations and strategic objectives are close or coincide,” the ambassador explained. Moscow maintains a close dialogue with India, and a “good level of mutual understanding” has developed between the countries.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine. India took a neutral position in relation to this conflict, which caused discontent in the West.
