The prosecutor's office of Paris finally stopped the criminal case of Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova

The Paris prosecutor's office finally closed the case of the Russian tennis player Yana Sizikova, who was suspected of a fixed match. According to the lawyer of the athlete Frederic Belo, according to the decision of the prosecutor of Paris, issued on April 11, 2023, all charges against Yana Sizikova were dropped.

Sizikova's fixed match allegedly took place on September 30, 2020, when she and her American partner Madison Brengle lost in the doubles competition to the Romanian Andrea Mitu and Patricia Maria Teague. Doubts about the honesty of the game caused a surge in rates in the totalizator for the victory of the Romanians. As the source of the sports publication L'Equipe assures, "abnormally high" sums - about "several tens of thousands of euros" were bet on the outcome of the game. This happened simultaneously in several countries, which, according to the investigation, required an appropriate organization.

The suspect was detained by police on June 3, 2021 at around 9 p.m. in the sports town of Roland Garros. She was taken to the prefecture of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), where she remained until the next evening, being interrogated.

After the intervention of a lawyer, Yana Sizikova was allowed to go home, her passport was returned to her, and she was able to leave France. On the advice of a lawyer, a complaint was filed to stop the slander. “A lawsuit against an unknown person, as we say, “against X,” because we don’t know who is accusing her,” Mr. Belo told Kommersant. “The accusations were very serious - “sports corruption” and “fraud as part of an organized group.” This could lead to imprisonment for a term of five to ten years and fines of hundreds of thousands of euros,” he said.

After two and a half years of investigation, the Paris prosecutor's office finally announced the closure of the case, believing that there was no evidence that the match was deliberately lost by the tennis player. “Yana Sizikova, who has always declared her innocence, is now free from all charges,” said Frederic Belo.
