The prison "Crosses" in St. Petersburg will be put up for auction

The state company Dom.RF will sell the plot and the building on Arsenalnaya Embankment in St. Petersburg, where the Kresty detention center was located. This is reported RBC with reference to the protocol of the government commission for the development of housing construction and evaluation of the efficiency of land use.

While the building is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), in perpetual use of the colony-settlement No. 8 of the Federal Penitentiary Service for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. Dom.RF is already working on receiving the object and studying its technical documentation, the company's press service reported.

"Crosses" are located on a land plot of 4.2 hectares. Its main part is occupied by two buildings of the pre-trial detention center. This territory, according to the protocol, will be divided into three sections, most of them - 3.9 hectares - will be transferred to Dom.RF. The state-owned company will not receive 0.3 hectares, which include dormitories for guards.

"Dom.RF" must sell the land and the buildings located on it, some of which may be demolished. The state-owned company intends to transfer 80% of the money received from the sale to the federal autonomous institution Scientific and Production Association of the Penitentiary System, which is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

“We plan to hold consultations with the administration of St. Petersburg, experts, residents of the city and potential investors ... So that the territory receives new, sought-after functions and returns to city life, remaining part of the tourist infrastructure,” Dom.RF said.

The complex on Arsenalnaya Embankment has not been used as a pre-trial detention center for several years. In December 2017, a new building for prisoners, the Kresty-2 complex, was built in the St. Petersburg suburb of Kolpino.
