The plane of the Russian delegation changed course due to the closure of the sky over Iran
The plane of the Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, en route to Qatar, turned around and landed in Mineralnye Vody. The decision to change course was made due to the closure of Iranian airspace after a missile attack on Israel.
Dmitry Chernyshenko was heading to Qatar to participate in the third summit of the Dialogue on Cooperation in Asia (DCA), which is scheduled for October 2-3. In addition to the deputy prime minister, on board the plane were Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Maxim Kolesnikov and other members of the delegation.
A special board of the Russian delegation, as reported "RIA Novosti"took off from Moscow around 19:00 Moscow time. Arrival in the Qatari capital Doha was expected at 00:30 Moscow time. TASS writes that the decision to change course was made on approach to Iran. The crew reported that due to the closure of the country's airspace, the plane would have to leave for refueling in Mineralnye Vody.
“The situation is tense, the crew acted professionally, thank you... We landed in Russia, in the Mineral Waters,” Mikhail Degtyarev commented on what happened.
On the evening of October 1, Iran launched about two hundred ballistic missiles towards Israel. Air defense systems operated over almost the entire territory of the country. Israel and Iran announced the closure of their airspaces. Jordan and Iraq made a similar decision.
