The operator of Zaporozhye NPP was headed by the former chief engineer of Balaklava NPP

Oleg Romanenko, the former chief engineer of the Balaklava NPP in the Saratov Region, headed the JSC "Operating Organization of Zaporozhye NPP", which took over the management of the plant. This was announced by Rosenergoatom, a subsidiary of Rosatom. October 5 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Decree on the acceptance of ZNPP facilities into federal ownership.

According to Oleg Romanenko, the key issue in the nuclear industry is the operation of nuclear installations. He noted that only an organization with “relevant experience and competencies” can solve such a problem. “Therefore, it is no coincidence that the state instructed the new company to ensure the stable operation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in compliance with all safety criteria and standards and using the impeccable experience of operating nuclear power plants in the Russian Federation,” said Mr. Romanenko (his words are quoted in a press release from Rosenergoatom) .

He also noted that the organization intends to normalize the situation within the team. “In the near future, all NPP employees will be employed by the new operating organization with salaries and social guarantees,” added Oleg Romanenko. In parallel, according to him, work will be carried out at the Zaporozhye NPP to assess the state of the station and restore the damaged infrastructure, taking into account the experience of operating power units in Russia.

In accordance with the presidential decree, the Russian government must ensure the transfer of the station and its facilities to federal ownership by January 1, 2028. Work permits issued before September 30 to ZNPP employees are valid until the issuance of the relevant permits from Russia.

The Russian military has been controlling the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant since March. Employees of the Ukrainian Energoatom work at the station. On October 4, the former director of the station, Igor Murashov, was handed over to Ukraine. He was accused of "discrediting the authorities of the Russian Federation." On the air of the Russia 24 TV channel, he acknowledged the transfer of data on the current state of affairs at the station to the Security Service of Ukraine.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi this week will visit Kyiv and Moscow to discuss safety at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
