Residents of Bratsk (Irkutsk region) were outraged by the mobilization of local oncologist Suren Bozoyan. Later it turned out that the man did not notify the employer about the receipt of the summons and voluntarily went with her to the draft board for patriotic reasons. Officials assure that his departure "will not affect the provision of assistance to the population."

The mobilization of a sought-after specialist became known on September 29, after publications in the popular city group on VKontakte "First in Bratsk" (the community has more than 58 thousand subscribers). “Tell me, please, why didn’t they put a reservation in front of the military registration and enlistment office for surgeons of the highest category? We have one surgeon-oncologist for the whole of Bratsk, very competent - this is Bozoyan Suren. The whole of Bratsk and the surrounding areas went to him. And yesterday Bozoyan Suren was called up. In big cities there are many specialists, but we have one or two, and then they take them away. People are doomed to a quick death, ”the anonymous author of the message was indignant. The entry contained a call to "defend our specialists." The author added that in Russian cities with a population of a million or more people “there are a lot of specialists and private clinics,” while “the last doctors are being taken away in Bratsk.” The post garnered hundreds of reactions, comments, and shares.

Bratsk is the second most populous city in the Irkutsk Region (more than 225,000 people). It is located in the northwestern part of the region, 620 km from Irkutsk. It is a large industrial center, on the territory of which the Bratsk hydroelectric power station, the Bratsk aluminum plant and other large enterprises of the metallurgical and woodworking industries operate.

Five hours later, Bratsk Mayor Sergei Serebrennikov commented on the situation on his page in VKontakte. “I see in our fraternal social networks questions about the mobilization of oncologist Suren Bozoyan. There was a call to bring him back to the city. Suren Bozoyan recorded a video for everyone who is worried. He says quite clearly that this is his voluntary choice. I turned to the Ministry of Health of the region to comment on the situation with the staffing of oncologists in Bratsk,” said Mr. Serebrennikov.

His recording was accompanied by a video recorded by a doctor in a train carriage. “A special report for our dear brothers, so as not to worry. I grew up in Transbaikalia, in a region where military traditions are strong from school to university. He passed the military department, lieutenant of the reserve, took the oath in 2004. My duty now is to be there with the guys.

There is no need to worry about me, this is a conscious choice, no one forced me. I’ll ask bloggers, colleagues, patients not to worry, everything will be fine,” Suren Bozoyan says on the recording.

On September 30, the Telegram channel of the regional Ministry of Health published appeal and. about. Chief Physician of the Irkutsk Regional Oncology Center Irina Lisichnikova. According to her, Suren Bozoyan was summoned to the military registration and enlistment office on September 27, received a summons for mobilization, and the next day left for training in Novosibirsk. “The doctor did not notify the management of the oncology dispensary about this. We understand that it was his conscious decision to give his military duty to the Motherland, and we respect such a decision, ”said and. about. chief physician. She also assured that medical care for cancer patients in Bratsk and the Bratsk region "will continue to be provided in full", and in the Bratsk Cancer Center "a new doctor was hired three weeks ago." “If necessary, additional oncologists from the Irkutsk Oncological Dispensary and the Angarsk Oncological Dispensary will be sent there,” added Irina Lisichnikova.

A Kommersant source close to the Bratsk administration assures that city officials persuaded Mr. Bozoyan to stay at his workplace and use the reservation for qualified specialists. However, the doctor "followed his decision." Officials of the regional Ministry of Health have not yet responded to the situation.
