The Bronze Horseman triathlon competitions in St. Petersburg will be held for the first time at the most difficult distance in the world. Athletes will overcome 226 kilometers, organizer of the event Sergei Bodrov told TASS.

The city will host the competition in mid-July 2023, and registration of participants will begin on October 1. It is expected that at least 1.5 thousand athletes will try their hand at the “iron” distance. Athletes will swim 3.8 kilometers of the “iron” distance, they will overcome another 180 kilometers on a bicycle and 42 kilometers will run.

It will also be possible to go a shorter way – middle distance, as well as children’s and women’s races will be opened for participants. Anyone can participate in them.

“We have no restrictions on participation. An athlete can be from any country, the main thing is good health and age from 18 years. In the first year of the event, the oldest participant was 85 years old, in addition to Russian athletes, 400 athletes arrived, representing 64 countries. In 2022, nine countries were represented and 92% of the participants were Russians”– said Bodrov.

According to him, in 2023 the city hopes to receive representatives from 10-15 states. Basically it is the states of the CIS. The venue for the competition will remain Krestovsky Island.
