Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said that Russia is not going to sell gas and oil to Western countries that will set a price limit for Russian energy resources.

“For sure, we will not sell at a loss or below cost. Well, that’s not possible. This is some kind of cartel conspiracy against us. We certainly will not allow such an attitude towards us, ” said he is in an interview with the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” of the TV channel “Russia-1” (quote from TASS).

The head of the Ministry of Energy added that the introduction of a ceiling on prices for Russian oil and gas would only make things worse for Western countries, which, in his words, “are no longer aware of what they are doing.”

On September 2, the finance ministers of the G7 countries (USA, UK, Canada, Japan, Italy, France and Germany) announced their intention to introduce a ceiling on prices for Russian oil. The US Treasury said that the introduction of such a measure would guarantee the supply of Russian oil, regardless of new sanctions, as well as avoid sharp jumps in gas prices. Later it became known that the G7 will establish oil price limit by December 5th. The introduction of a price ceiling for Russian gas has not yet been agreed upon by the EU countries.

Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) called the idea of limiting prices “nonsense” and “absolutely stupid decision”, which will lead to a further increase in energy prices in Europe and the countries that make this decision. He said that Russia would not supply energy resources to those countries that “impose” their conditions.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev also noted that Europe would face a lack of Russian gas in the event of the introduction of a price ceiling for it.
