The Ministry of Digital Development proposes to verify identity when purchasing a SIM card

In Russia, they are planning to change the rules for providing telephone services on the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation. The corresponding draft resolution was published on portal draft regulatory legal acts.

So, when purchasing SIM cards, you will need to confirm your identity.

This can be done in several ways: using a passport, through “Gosuslugi” or using biometrics.

Foreign citizens will be able to purchase a SIM card only using biometrics.

The department explained that the purpose of the changes is to improve the security of subscribers and to combat illegal SIM cards.
