The highest UGS occupancy rates are in Portugal (100%) and Poland (98.7%). UGS facilities are the least filled in Latvia (51.59%), Bulgaria (69.29%), Hungary (68.98%), Austria (73.22%) and Romania (80.46%). UGS facilities in France are 95.07% full, in Denmark — 94.24%, in Sweden — 90.81%, in Germany — 89.33%.

Earlier, the EU countries agreed to fill UGS facilities by 80% by the winter of 2022-2023, and by 90% by the next winters. The UGS is being filled against the backdrop of a reduction in gas supplies to the EU from Gazprom due to sanctions and problems with the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
