The Kremlin said there were no plans for negotiations between Putin and Biden

Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden do not plan to hold talks. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“So far, there are no plans for negotiations between Putin and Biden. Our main goal is to continue the special military operation. The main goal is to fulfill our tasks that were outlined by the head of state,” he said.

Peskov also commented on media reports about a new package of military assistance to Ukraine being prepared in the United States. The Kremlin spokesman called the supply of weapons to Kyiv “a direct path to escalating tension.” He added that such actions require additional efforts from the Russian Federation. At the same time, Peskov stressed, sending military equipment to Ukraine will not change the course of the special operation.

Earlier today Reuters reportedthat the United States plans to provide Ukraine with a new $2.2 billion military aid package, which will also include missiles with a range of 150 km. According to sources, it could be announced as early as this week.

Last week, Germany and the United States announced the supply of tanks to Kyiv: Germany will send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the United States – 31 Abrams. Against the backdrop of statements about the transfer of new weapons to Kyiv, the Kremlin pointed to the increased direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, Putin and Biden have not communicated in person. The leaders’ previous telephone conversations took place on February 12, 2022.

The issue of a meeting of the presidents was raised in October, on the eve of the G20 summit. Then Biden admitted meeting with Putin in Bali. “We’ll see,” he said, answering the related question. However, later the American leader said that he “sees no point” in these negotiations.

December 1 Biden again declaredthat he has no plans to negotiate with the Russian president. Then he noted that he was ready to talk with Putin if he showed “interest in cessation of hostilities” in Ukraine. In the Kremlin answeredthat such statements “complicate the search for grounds for discussion,” since Biden’s words mean that the United States does not recognize the entry of new territories into the Russian Federation.
