The proposal to create a gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is relevant and meets the interests of the countries. Such a decision will allow to synchronize the actions of states, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“Coordination of actions will be in the interests of all three of the aforementioned states. The fact is that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are developing their economies quite quickly, their internal gas needs are growing. And besides, both countries trade in foreign markets. Trades in foreign markets, of course, and the Russian Federation. Of course, this requires a certain synchronization,” he said.

Peskov recalled that within the framework of the EurAsEC, Russia and Kazakhstan have prospects for creating common energy markets. He added that Uzbekistan is also “looking at” the economic organization.

Peskov explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin had in mind the creation of a coordination mechanism at the first stage. According to the Kremlin spokesman, this initiative is yet to be discussed.

Earlier today, Press Secretary of the President of Kazakhstan Ruslan Zheldibai informedthat at a meeting in Moscow on November 28, the leaders of Russia and Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, discussed the creation of a “tripartite gas union” with Uzbekistan. According to him, the purpose of the union is “coordination of actions during the transportation of Russian gas through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.” It was noted that the countries plan to conduct detailed negotiations on this initiative.
