Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented on Ukraine’s plans to join NATO in an expedited manner.
According to him, the Kremlin heard the statement of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, and also saw a different reaction from the North Atlantic Alliance. Some member states of the military-political bloc support the option of an accelerated entry of the republic into NATO, but there are also countries that do not agree with such a decision, Peskov noted, adding that everyone refers to the consensus rule.
The official representative of the Kremlin stressed that the Russian side is watching this decision very carefully and remembers that it was Ukraine’s orientation to the North Atlantic Alliance and the confirmation of the country’s future membership in the bloc that became one of the reasons for Russia’s special military operation.
