The Kremlin commented on the denunciation of the agreement with Ukraine on the Sea of Azov

The denunciation of the agreement with Ukraine on the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait is due to the fact that the Sea of Azov has become inland. This was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“In the Sea of Azov, absolutely everything is clear there. Since it has become an inland sea of the Russian Federation, the legal status has also changed,” he said.

At the same time, Peskov did not answer the question of whether there are still agreements with Ukraine that are planned to be denounced.

On June 1, the State Duma at once in three readings denounced the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait. The bill to denounce the treaty was submitted to the State Duma by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 24. The explanatory note states that Ukraine withdrew from this treaty on March 25.

The agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait was signed at the end of 2003 in Kerch. The agreement emphasized the importance of economic development between the two countries and the preservation of the economic and natural complex of water areas.
