The outstanding Russian poet would have turned 95 in July 2023

On March 21, World Poetry Day, events dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the poet, TV presenter, editor-in-chief of the Yunost magazine from 1981 to 1992 Andrei Dementyev began in the House of Andrei Dementyev in Tver. By tradition, a meeting of young poets “Green Leaf” was held on the Tver land, and the Dementiev Prizes were also awarded.

As the artistic director of the House, Anna Pugach-Dementyeva, told MK, Stefania Danilova from St. Petersburg was awarded in the Young Poet nomination by the decision of the jury for the collection of poems Undeclared Spring. Alexander Sabitov’s publicistic research “Famous and not so famous authors of book epitaphs” was awarded a diploma “For outstanding courage in philological research.” And the main award “For the contribution to the development and popularization of poetic creativity” was received by the People’s Artist of Russia, performer of romances Oleg Pogudin for the concert programs “Golden Age” and “Silver Age”.

It is noteworthy that the jury includes writers Yuri Polyakov, Pavel Basinsky, Alexei Varlamov, Gennady Krasnikov and Marina Kudimova, Mikhail Golubkov, head of the department of modern literature at Moscow State University, and Alexander Sokolov, rector of the Moscow Conservatory.

It also became known that the Russian Peace Foundation, whose deputy chairman was Andrey Dmitrievich, together with the House, announced a new nomination for the Dementiev Prize “Keeper of the Book” – the Best Libraries of Russia. The first prize was given to the director of the Tver Regional Library. Gorky Svetlana Maldova. It is this institution with a 160-year history, as you know, that, among other things, acted as a collector and custodian of archival materials of its great fellow countryman.

“The well-known post-war poem “My Bread” is dedicated to the native Gorky Library,” says Anna Pugach, and quotes a few lines:

And the gray room

With sad lights

Sailed away…

And everything seemed like a dream.

Although books did not replace bread for me,

But they helped to forget about him.

Recall that the anniversary year of Dementiev will end with a gala concert in the Grand Kremlin Palace with the participation of movie, theater and pop stars on November 18 this year.
