The Russian government has approved a draft federal law that provides for the classification of persons awarded the sign “Inhabitant of the besieged Stalingrad” to the category of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, according to site government.
The badge of honor “Inhabitant of besieged Stalingrad” is awarded to citizens who during the Battle of Stalingrad from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943 were in the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd).
The draft law proposes to establish measures of social protection for those who survived the siege of Stalingrad, similar to those applied to persons awarded the signs “Inhabitant of besieged Leningrad” or “Inhabitant of besieged Sevastopol”.
Social guarantees include the right to simultaneously receive two pensions, monthly cash payments and the opportunity to improve housing conditions at the expense of the federal budget.
According to the Committee for Social Protection of the Population of the Volgograd Region, at the moment, 3,997 people have been awarded the “Inhabitant of the besieged Stalingrad” badge. For holders of the status, in particular, a monthly cash payment of 443 rubles is provided. and a monthly payment to compensate for 50% of the cost of housing and communal services.
