The Federation Council unanimously approved the laws on the admission of new territories

The Federation Council (SF) approved federal constitutional laws on the admission of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into Russia. Senators unanimously supported the laws. Now they will be sent for signature to the President, said Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko. Earlier today, October 4, the Federation Council also ratified treaties on the admission of new territories to Russia.

After being accepted into the new territories, the head of state will have to amend the Russian Constitution. State Duma yesterday, October 3, also unanimously ratified treaties on the admission of new territories and approved relevant laws.

The DPR and LPR within Russia will retain the status of republics and their former names. Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will remain regions. The state language will be Russian, in schools promise save the study of Ukrainian. Residents of new regions are recognized as Russian citizens from the day they are admitted to Russia (September 30th).
