The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, has proposed establishing additional controls on the export of EU civilian technology to Russia, said EC spokesman Eric Mamer.

“She said, firstly, that, of course, sanctions against individuals and legal entities will be considered. And secondly, she said that we would offer additional export controls on civilian technology. That is, control over the export of the European Union to Russia,” said Mamer (quote by Interfax).

According to him, von der Leyen believes that the Russian economy has been reoriented towards a special operation and this justifies this type of additional sanctions.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, citing a statement by the EU foreign ministers, said that the EU countries would impose new sanctions on Russia, its leadership and the organizers of referendums in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions “as soon as possible “.

On the eve of the European division of the publication Politico, citing four diplomats from EU countries, reported that the EC is already preparing the eighth package of sanctions against Russia. According to the publication, consultations with representatives of EU member states will begin within a few days. The European Commission plans to discuss the proposals with EU ambassadors on 23 September.
