The demand in the Bundestag to lift sanctions on Russia led to a scandal

There was a serious scandal in the German Bundestag in connection with the call of the representative of the Left Party, Sarah Wagenknecht, to lift sanctions against the Russian Federation. As a result, the deputies of the faction could not come to a unified position on this issue.

According to the publication Die WeltOn Sept. 8, Wagenknecht accused the federal government of waging an “unprecedented economic war” against Russia, which she called her most important energy supplier. She pointed out that supporting Ukraine is costly for the people of Germany themselves. As a result, the deputy called on the German authorities to resume negotiations with Moscow on energy supplies.

The words of Wagenknecht did not find agreement among a number of party members. In particular, the Prime Minister of the federal state of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelov, sent a letter to the parliamentary faction. In it, he criticized the politician for these words. And a member of the Left and the head of the Social Security Association, Ulrich Schneider, decided to leave the party. However, there were also those who supported Wagenknecht. As a result, there was a split in the party.

Former member of the Bundestag from the Left Party faction Sara Wagenknecht in an interview with Die Welt, she said that the German government needs to abandon its policy of sanctions in order to restore Russian gas exports. And the newspaper also specifies that Wagenknecht said all this in support of demonstrations caused by rising fuel prices.
