The Bolshoi Theater announced the cancellation of screenings of the ballet “A Hero of Our Time”

The Bolshoi Theater has canceled performances of the ballet “Hero of Our Time”. The theater’s telegram channel has message that the performances of Possokhov/Serebrennikov’s ballet A Hero of Our Time will not take place in May 2023. The message under the heading “Important information” says that instead of the previously announced performances of the ballet “Hero of Our Time” on May 5, 6 and 7, the ballet “Master and Margarita” will be shown.

It was previously announced that for the first time since 2020, the ballet “A Hero of Our Time” to the music of Ilya Demutsky and choreographed by Yuri Posokhov will return to the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theater. Kirill Serebrennikov was listed as the stage director, production designer and author of the play’s libretto. This fact caused a disapproving reaction in social networks due to the fact that Serebrennikov repeatedly criticized the SVO. Since March 2022, the director has been outside of Russia.

The premiere of the ballet took place at the Bolshoi Theater in July 2015, it was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the author of the novel A Hero of Our Time, Mikhail Lermontov.
