In July-August, the Accounts Chamber expanded the audit program for the monitoring and accounting system of forest resources. This program included checking the protection of forests from fires, reported TASS in the department’s press office. In particular, the check will be carried out in Yakutia.

The Accounts Chamber said that the Ministry of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry of Yakutia was added to the list of objects for verification. Auditor Sergei Mammadov explained that the region has a “particularly difficult” situation with fires. He clarified that from 2019 to 2021, the area of ​​fires in Yakutia doubled, and the cost of protecting forests from fires – 3.5 times, to almost 2.5 billion rubles.

“As part of the audit, we plan not only to verify the legality of the use of budgetary resources allocated for these purposes, but also to identify the causes of negative trends in terms of forest fires in this region,” Mr. Mammadov specified.
