The Canadian ice hockey team became the world champion after beating the German team 5:2 in the final. Canadians won the world championship for the 28th time in history. The meeting was held in Finnish Tampere.

The Canadian team became the record holder for the number of victories, ahead of the teams of the USSR and Russia, which collectively won 27 titles. The USSR team became the world champion 22 times, the Russian team – 5 times.

The German team became the silver medalist of the championship for the third time. In addition, the German team won bronze medals twice.

The winners had goals scored by Samuel Blais (11th and 45th minutes), Lawson Crouse (38), Tyler Toffoli (52) and Scott Lawton (59). The losers are John-Jason Peterka (8) and Daniel Fischbuch (34).

Initially, the Ice Hockey World Championship was to be hosted by St. Petersburg. Due to sanctions, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) moved it to Finnish Tampere and Latvian Riga.
