TASS: Russia plans to invite India to cooperate on the Checkmate fighter project

The Russian delegation will discuss the possibility of cooperation with India in the creation of fifth-generation aircraft at the Aero India 2023 air show, reports TASS with a link to the source. We are talking, in particular, about the tactical fighter Checkmate.

The Checkmate was designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It was created on the basis of the scientific and technical reserve obtained during the development of the Su-57. The fighter will be able to simultaneously hit up to six targets. The speed of a single-engine aircraft will be Mach 1.8, and the combat radius will be 3,000 km.

“We plan to discuss cooperation on fifth-generation aircraft. In particular, there is an intention to invite Indian friends to join the Checkmate light tactical fighter project, ”said the agency’s interlocutor close to Rostec.

The Aero India 2023 aerospace exhibition will be held in Bangalore from 13 to 17 February, it is held every two years.

Checkmate Presentation passed in July 2021 at the MAKS-2021 air show. It was planned that the first flight of a fighter will take place in 2024, and the first batch produce in 2026. Its cost evaluated at $25–30 million.
