Switzerland will review its relations with Russia in the next foreign policy strategy, follows from the report of the country’s Foreign Ministry on foreign policy for 2022.

“Relations with Russia should be reviewed in the next foreign policy strategy. Moscow’s refusal to accept a Protecting Power mandate to protect Ukraine’s interests in Russia is a clear indication that the promotion of peace is currently in a very difficult environment,” says in the document.

The Foreign Ministry also recalled that Switzerland joined all the EU sanctions that were introduced after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Against the backdrop of the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the EU has already adopted nine packages of sanctions against Russia. Restrictions have affected many sectors of the economy, including energy, high-tech sector, aviation, banking and mining, automotive, etc.

December 16, 2022 EU accepted the ninth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The restrictions affected Russian banks, the export of dual-use goods and technologies, and a ban was introduced on investments in the energy and mining sectors of Russia.
