SuperJob: 43% of working Russian men are ready to go on maternity leave instead of a wife

As shown interview SuperJob portal, 43% of Russian married men would go on maternity leave instead of their wife. 27% of respondents would definitely agree to this, another 16% – with a high degree of probability. At the same time, 17% of employers surveyed reported that they sent male employees on maternity leave – this figure has not changed since 2020.

More than half (57%) of married Russians would not go on maternity leave. 34% said they absolutely rule out such an option. 23% of respondents said they would most likely not agree to this.

The survey was conducted on January 9-31 in 357 settlements of the Russian Federation. It was attended by 1.6 thousand Russian men who are married and planning children, as well as having a permanent job.

The right to go on parental leave appeared in Russian men in 2007. In 2018, the VTsIOM survey showedthat 58% of Russians also do not consider it normal when a father goes on parental leave, while the mother continues to work. Most often, men are outraged about this – 62%. In 2021 the European Court of Human Rights acknowledged illegal ban on maternity leave for male police officers in Russia.
