Super-powerful solar flare could have maximum impact on Earth
The second most powerful flare in the current cycle of solar activity occurred on the Sun on the night of Wednesday, October 2. This was reported to TASS at the Institute of Applied Geophysics.
Scientists clarified that the duration of the X7.1 flare was 31 minutes, and it occurred almost in the center of the solar disk - in the area of maximum impact on the Earth.
This flare “could hit” the Earth on the night of October 4–5, but there is not enough time since the flare to make an accurate forecast.
Earlier, the head of the IZMIRAN Space Weather Forecast Center, Maria Abunina, noted that by the end of this week the release of solar energy could trigger magnetic storms on Earthwith plasma exposure expected within three to four days.
Associate Professor of the Department of General and Medical Biophysics, Faculty of Medical Biology, Russian National Research Medical University named after. N.I. Pirogov of the Russian Ministry of Health German Stepanov explained why during magnetic storms many feel unwell.
