Sports agent told why American athletes go to Russia

Russia attracts American athletes with safety, competitiveness, and high and stable salaries, said sports agent David Carro, who represents several basketball players.
Earlier, the State Department urged American athletes to immediately leave Russia, as the US Embassy in Russia “has limited capacity” to help fellow citizens.
In a New York Times commentary, Carro noted that American basketball players go to Russia because here they can count on timely payments. “The league is competitive and they don’t have to pay extra for apartments and cars,” he said.
The agent also said that “Russia is not as dangerous as people think,” and the armed conflict is taking place on the territory of Ukraine, not Russia.
Earlier it was reported that at least 31 basketball players from the United States will play in various clubs in Russia in the new basketball season. Brittney Greiner, who previously played in Russia for the UMMC club from Yekaterinburg, is currently serving her sentence in Russia. She won world championships and the Olympic Games as part of the US team. In February, she was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport and seized smoking liquid, in which banned substances were later found. The athlete was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
