SKA-Khabarovsk beat Kuban 2-0 at home

The match for the guests could have ended in a rout, but the owners failed to convert their chances

It happened, at the end of September SKA-Khabarovsk finally returned home for real. Before that, the army team played all the “home” matches in Kazan, due to the fact that an artificial field, which at one time embarrassed Sergei Yuran, was being rebuilt on the home arena. Now the lawn is in place, tested and ready to take on football battles of both the First and Second Leagues.

The first to “open” the season in Khabarovsk was Kuban. The team has not been very stable since the beginning of the season. The Southerners won only three matches out of ten, drew two more and lost five. Despite this, the team should not be treated with disdain. One of the three victories took place on the eve of departure to the Far East, the Kuban defeated not just anyone, but the Tula Arsenal, who dreamed of returning to the Premier League.

While watching football, I thought that I would call the first game segment “the time of missed opportunities”. Well, in fact, after the third or fourth “lethal”, but not realized moment at the gates of Yuri Nesterenko, it began to seem that the army team would not be able to outplay the defenders and the goalkeeper of the guests. And not because they were very good (although there is some truth in this), but because they tried very unpretentiously to get around their opponents in the penalty area.

Shots on goal were easily calculated and parried by the goalkeeper, and only on 28 minutes the Red-Blues finally (that’s how they almost completely dominated the field) were able to open the score. The ball was scored by Igor Tursunov, by the way, this is his first goal for SKA Khabarovsk. At the ninth minute, another event happened that played a role in this match, but then remained unnoticed – Igor Bezdenezhny received a yellow card for rough play.

The second half showed that the folk wisdom – “do not promise” is still relevant. Missed opportunities to score the guests enough here. Moreover, on 49 minutes, the same Bezdenezhnykh, all for the same rough game, first receives a second yellow card, and then a red one, having gone to the locker room. Oddly enough, the removal of the midfielder aggravated the game, but a little in the wrong direction as expected.

“Kuban” finally woke up from sleep and began to visit the penalty area more and more often to Evgeny Pomazan, who replaced the injured Vladimir Sugrobov. However, the general trend – to create and not to score, turned out to be fair for the southerners. The second goal of “Kuban” was scored by Ilya Petrov. From the penalty spot, prudently and cold-bloodedly. Presumptuously waiting for a strike in the center, Nesterenko jumped, but expectedly failed to reach the ball. By the end of the match, Kuban added more momentum, but could not win back at least one ball from the army team. The result of the meeting is 2:0 in favor of the Khabarovsk team.

“Even the removal did not affect us for the better. To summarize, I am generally satisfied with the first half and the opposite opinion about the second. But this is part of the game, we will work on it, I see a lot of psychology in this, how we react to this or that moment. There were matches that we played in the minority and how we reacted to the goals we conceded, and today we had a reaction, but not in the way that we would like. The most important thing is that we won the first match at home and, in any case, we will work on progress of each player. As for adapting to a new place, everything is fine.” – said Roman Sharonov, head coach of FC SKA-Khabarovsk.

As for the condition of Vladimir Sugrobov, who was literally taken off the field today, he is being examined by doctors. As soon as a diagnosis is made, the club will inform about it. The Khabarovsk army team will play the next match on Saturday, October 1 in Ulyanovsk with the local Volga. But after that we will witness the Far East derby. SKA, as in the good old days, will go to Vladivostok to fight in the match at the Russian Cup with the “blue and white” from the capital of Primorye.
