In Izhevsk, they say goodbye to teachers and students who died as a result of the attack on school No. 88. There were 11 funerals today. Before the start of farewell to mathematics teacher Natalya Vedernikova, at the entrance to the funeral hall of the funeral home, schoolchildren were grouped into small groups. It was mostly high school students. It was vaguely reminiscent of the beginning of a school day in the school yard. The teachers came to inquire: how was the condition of the students after the attack?

Many of those who came shared with each other memories of the events of Monday. When the shooting started, said one of the employees of the educational institution, the teachers rushed to save the children. Around 11 a.m. on September 26, 34-year-old graduate of school No. 88 in Izhevsk Artem Kazantsev broke in into the school building, shot from the two traumatic pistols he had, converted into military weapons, the guards and moved around the school, killing children and teachers.

The victims of the attack were 17 people, including 11 children, 2 security guards, 3 teachers and a school employee. More than 20 people, mostly children, were injured. The shooter killed himself.

The small farewell hall where the memorial service was held was quickly filled with people. Neither the young people nor the teachers could hold back their tears.

One of the graduates said at the coffin that, thanks to Natalya Igorevna, she fell in love with mathematics, which she never liked, and admitted: “She is the only one who believed that I could successfully pass the exam in this subject.” Another young man who graduated from school No. 88 shared that it was fun with Natalya Igorevna, she understood jokes and never took offense at them. “We could talk with Natalya Igorevna on any topic,” he recalled. “She always met with a bright smile. She was not only very kind and understanding, but also knew how to become strict in time.

“Thanks to her, we wrote an excellent math exam,” a tenth grader from school No. 88 confirmed to Kommersant and added: “She was and remains the best for us.”

One of the colleagues did not hide the fact that sometimes she was “a little jealous” of her students for the mathematics teacher: she was always enthusiastically spoken about. “She was a very bright person, cheerful, she loved her work very much,” one of those who came to say goodbye said. “She participated in organizing holidays, reworked songs for performances, and loved to sing.” Natalya Vedernikova did not have her own children, she put all her love into her students, someone added.

At the end of the memorial service, the priest who conducted it once again called to say goodbye to the deceased: “If you have to ask for forgiveness for something, you are guilty of something or you did something wrong with her during your lifetime, ask for forgiveness now. And if you didn’t have time to say something kind, say it now too.

“Natalya Igorevna was a teacher with a capital letter,” the headmaster of the school, Elena Semashko, took the floor. “She showed herself as a person who could protect children. The school wrote a petition to award Natalya Igorevna with a government award posthumously. Then the director addressed everyone: “Dear relatives, relatives, I apologize that such a situation happened. Natalya Igorevna fulfilled her duty to the end.

Relatives of the deceased and graduates carried wreaths, flowers and a coffin to the hearse.

Today, in the Michael-Arkhangelsk Cathedral, a farewell was held for a nine-year-old student who died during the attack on the school. There were fewer people here - only relatives, classmates and their parents.

In total, today they said goodbye to 11 victims of the tragedy, the press service of the head and government of Udmurtia reported. Assistance in organizing the funeral was provided by the authorities.

The head of the republic and the government of the region offered their deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The families of the victims were promised material support in the amount of 1 million rubles.

In Udmurtia, mourning has been declared until September 29, all entertainment events have been canceled, flags have been flown at half mast on state buildings.
