Sergey Lavrov visited Mali for the first time



Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov went on a tour of Africa for the second time since the beginning of the year, where he arrived after a visit to Iraq. On February 7, Lavrov arrived in the capital of Mali, Bamako, next stop will be neighboring Mauritania, then the Russian minister will visit Sudan.

Lavrov met with Mali's Transitional President Colonel Assimi Goita, who has been heading the country since 2021, and held talks with Foreign Minister Aboulaya Diop. Bamako opposes international economic sanctions against Russia in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, the Malian minister said. Jeune Afrique noted that Lavrov's visit was "a very symbolic trip designed to celebrate bilateral relations between Bamako and Moscow."
