The restrictions will take effect at 00:00 on September 30. From now on, Russians will no longer be allowed into Finland, despite the presence of a Schengen visa. It is also prohibited to transit through the territory of the country.

“The principal decision is aimed at completely stopping tourism and the transit travel associated with it. The acceptance of visa applications will be severely limited,” the statement said.

It is explained that the Finnish authorities made such a decision on the basis of subparagraph e of paragraph 1 of Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code.

Meanwhile, the embassy clarified that they would continue to let Russians into the country who travel for humanitarian reasons, as well as “in order to ensure national interest or fulfill international obligations.” Judging by previously published information, a humanitarian reason is the desire to visit friends or relatives living in Finland, as well as work, study or treatment in the country. But the ownership of real estate will not be considered the basis for permission to enter.
