Member of the Duma of Otradny (Samara Region) from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Mikhail Belsner asks to initiate amendments to an article of the federal law that does not allow parliamentarians to voluntarily join the ranks of the Russian armed forces to participate in a special operation. He sent the corresponding appeal to State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev. Mikhail Belsner proposes to exclude from the law “On the General Principles of Organizing Local Self-Government in the Russian Federation” a subparagraph stating that the powers of a deputy are terminated ahead of schedule in the event of being called up for military service or being sent to an alternative civilian service that replaces it.

Or, in his opinion, it is possible to change the subparagraph of the law in the following way: “the powers of a deputy are terminated ahead of schedule in the event of being called up for military service or being sent to an alternative civilian service that replaces it, except in cases of the deputy’s voluntary desire during the period of the SVO, the declaration of wartime or the introduction of military provisions for up to six months and not more than once a year.

“Having a voluntary desire to join the ranks of the Samara battalion and the armed forces of the Russian Federation (for a period of six months), I was faced with the inability to exercise the right to protect my fellow citizens, loved ones and the Motherland during the period of the SVO due to the status of a deputy in the Otradny Duma … After I I wrote a statement, at the military enlistment office they gave me a referral for a medical examination, which did not reveal any contraindications for military service in me … During the Great Patriotic War, my ancestors were deprived of the right to protect the borders of their homeland because of German nationality. In the current situation, my family is faced with new discrimination,” says Mikhail Belsner in his appeal.
