Ryazan Mayor Elena Sorokina resigns - Kommersant
The head of the administration of Ryazan, Elena Sorokina, will leave her post on May 29. She reported this in her Telegram-channel. Mrs. Sorokina did not specify the reason for leaving. At the next meeting of the city duma, Vitaly Artemov, the first deputy head of the city administration, will be offered the position of acting mayor of Ryazan.
“On Monday, May 29, the last day of my work as head of the administration of the city of Ryazan. It wasn't just a job. It was a very important part of my life... In my future work, I will do my best for the benefit of the development of the region,” Ms. Sorokina wrote.
In her message, Elena Sorokina expressed her gratitude to the employees of the Ryazan mayor's office, the regional government, organizations and companies, as well as "caring people of Ryazan." “We went through difficult times together: we survived covid, emergencies, fires and much more,” she concluded.
The Governor of the Ryazan Region, Pavel Malkov, specified that Mrs. Sorokina wrote a letter of resignation today, May 26. He also said that Vitaly Artemov had been appointed to the post of first deputy head of the administration of Ryazan. “I ask the deputies to support the candidacy of Vitaly Evgenievich for the position of acting head of the administration of Ryazan at the next meeting of the City Duma,”— added He.
From 2013 to September 2017, Elena Sorokina served as Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Physical Culture and Sports of the Ryazan Region. In November 2017, Ms. Sorokina became the deputy head of the administration of Ryazan. She was appointed Mayor of Ryazan in September 2019.
Vitaly Artemov is the former mayor of Ryazan. He served as head of administration in 2010-2014.
Earlier today about the intention to leave the position informed Mayor of Izhevsk Oleg Bekmemetiev, the reason was the transition to a new job. The head of the region, Alexander Brechalov, told reporters that Mr. Bekmemetyev received a "very serious offer."
