Researchers from the Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) tested the operation of the people search system using a GSM base station. As Evgeny Makarov, head of the laboratory of unmanned aerial systems, explained, it is installed on multi-rotor drones.
The researchers checked the range of the signal and the features of its direction finding. The system allows you to find people in the forest by a mobile phone signal.
Makarov clarified that the scientists wanted to know at what distance the station can pick up the subscriber’s signal.
“At night, when there is hardly a large number of people in the forest besides a lost person, such information may be enough,” Makarov noted.
According to him, a person’s phone number will allow to identify a person. Makarov noted that the system could be tested in the future together with rescuers and activists of the LizaAlert search squad.
