Russian Railways may provide discounts for part of metal exports

JSC Russian Railways is developing options for discounts for the export transportation of metals to the south, said Alexei Shilo, deputy head of the company. According to him, discounts should be tied to a guarantee of volumes.

“We have received discount offers from 5 metallurgical companies. At the moment, according to one of the appeals for enterprises on the South-Eastern Railway, such a decision was made in order to stimulate not the east, not across the whole country to transport, but still somehow reduce transport costs when transporting through the ACHB (ports of Azov- Black Sea basin – “b”). The discount is valid only in case of confirmation of volume guarantees from enterprises,” said Alexei Shilo at a briefing (quoted from TASS).

According to him, now it is not profitable for companies to transport metal products over long distances because of the current prices for them. “The main constraint today is that steel companies are not ready to guarantee volumes, and for Russian Railways this is one of the elements that is mandatory in order to make decisions about discounts,” he said.

Earlier it became known that the European Union is considering the possibility of additional sanctions against Russian metallurgy. Among the restrictions may be a ban on the import of certain types of steel products, specific types of products have not yet been named.
