The Russian national football team will hold the next training camp in the fall, reported press office Russian Football Union (RFU). The decision was made after consultations with the coaches of the national team and the clubs that delegate the largest number of players to the team.

“The Russian Football Union is negotiating with a number of national federations and has preliminary agreements to hold friendly matches during the FIFA autumn window. The schedule of potential rivals of the national team does not allow the game to be played on convenient dates in June, therefore, it was decided to cancel the June training camp and not violate the clubs’ preparation program for the 2023/24 season,” the organization added.

RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov pointed out TASSthat now negotiations on international matches “are fraught with objective difficulties” (the national team and clubs from Russia are not allowed to participate in FIFA tournaments).

“The RFU had preliminary agreements on a friendly match with the Cameroon national team, but the Cameroonians at the last moment refused to play … We had the opportunity to agree with another opponent on June 20th. The game of the national team on this date would force a number of clubs to adjust their preparation programs for the season,” said Mr. Mitrofanov.

From the scheduled match with the Russian team, the Cameroon national team refused May 23 – The decision was made by the government of an African country. The game was supposed to take place on June 15 at Luzhniki. According to the plan, the meeting was preceded by the traditional gathering of the Russian team.
