The Presidium of the Russian Film Academy decided not to nominate a domestic film for the Oscar in 2022. About it reported on the website of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the reason for the decision is not indicated.

The composition of the commission for the nomination of a Russian film for the Oscars is formed and approved by the Presidium of the Film Academy. Since 2021, director Pavel Chukhrai has been the chairman of the Oscar Commission, reminds the Film Academy. The category “Best Foreign Language Film” is included in the main nominations of the American Film Awards.

Oscar at the time got the following Russian feature films: “War and Peace” by Sergei Bondarchuk in 1968, “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears” by Vladimir Menshov in 1980, “Dersu Uzala” by Akira Kurosawa in 1975 (filmed at Mosfilm), “Burnt by the Sun” by Nikita Mikhalkov, 1994.

The 95th Academy Awards for Lifetime Achievement in Cinematography for 2022 will take place on March 12, 2023. It will be held offline at the Los Angeles Dolby Cinema.
