The Russian Federation exercised its veto power as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and blocked the adoption of a draft resolution by the United States and Albania condemning the holding of referendums in the Donbass and on the territory of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

Earlier, the United States, with the support of Albania, submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council for consideration. The resolution condemned the holding of nationwide referendums in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN and the UN Security Council, Vasily Nebenzya, said that he would use his veto right and block this resolution. As we can see, this is what happened.

Recall that today, September 30, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed agreements on joining the Russian Federation Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. They form new regions within the country.
