Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, recalled that Russia occupies the position of the largest grain producer in the world. In the event that the Russian Agricultural Bank (RSHB), which fell under the sanctions, returns to the international system for transmitting financial messages between SWIFT banks, then Russia is ready to supply grain abroad. Mr. Aksakov said this during a conversation at the press center “Parliamentary newspaper”.

“We are ready to sell surplus grain, but we are raising the issue of having supplies financially serviced by a specialized bank, which is closely connected with the economy,” said the chairman of the State Duma committee. 2022 was a record year for the Russian agricultural industry, Anatoly Aksakov recalled.

15 November sources of the British newspaper Financial Times reportedthat the UN is in talks to extend the term of the grain deal concluded in Istanbul in July. Russia, as part of these discussions, demanded that the United States and the European Union (EU) lift the sanctions that deprived the RSHB of access to SWIFT, the sources said.

November 28 European Commission spokesman Peter Stano informedthat the EU took note of Russia’s position on the importance of RSHB in agricultural exports. Then Mr. Stano said that Brussels would consider the possibility of lifting the sanctions.

RSHB hit under Western sanctions after the start of the military operation in Ukraine.
